SA restaurants make World’s Best Restaurants list
World Class. Two South African restaurants make it on the prestigious World's Best Restaurant's list that makes its return after its hiatus

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is back! The prestigious culinary awards were on a hiatus due to the pandemic but their top best restaurants list has returned.
They have unveiled their 51-100 list as part of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021. The restaurants included are “highly commended” as the hospitality industry attempts a resurgence amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
From Number 100 to Number 51, featuring restaurants in 22 countries, two entries on the list are from South Africa and both are located in the Western Cape.
Which two South African restaurants are counted among the World’s Best?
No.81 La Colombe, Cape Town:
La Colombe is situated atop the mountain slopes of the Cape Peninsula and on the grounds of Silvermist organic wine estate. The World Best’s Restaurants described La Colombe dining experience as “minimalist” and “muted”, allowing chef Jame Gaag’s theatrical dishes to take centre stage.
The restaurant was beyond pleased with the accolade.

“Receiving this recognition during such a difficult time for the industry means so much. As always, we wouldn’t exist without the support of every diner who walks through our doors – and, of course, the global industry who acknowledges the work and creativity our team delivers – we appreciate you more than you could ever realise,” they posted on Instagram.
La Colombe plating is top-class. From petit poussin with tiger prawn and miso corn, grass-fed beef with celeriac and wild rosemary featured on their current spring special multi-course menu, costing R795 per person.
No.92 FYN Restaurant
“Looks like New York, tastes like Tokyo, feels like Cape Town” is FYN’s motto. Coming in at number 92 on World Best Restaurants list, FYN has been mistaken for a modern art gallery for first-timers because of its stainless-steel furnishings.
Headed by French chef Alexandre Gauthier, his menu touches on his roots and travels. With ingredients such as pigeon, bound rhubarb, fermented turnips and langoustine tuiles in an 11 -course avant-garde dinner menu. The selection is also heavily based on Japanese cuisine, expect a lot of sushi with a modern twist and a menu that pushes the boundaries.
FYN said it was an “honour” to be included in the best restaurant list. “We are grateful to have a place amongst such incredible company.”
