Recipe: Arrabiata sauce

Try this spicy and simple pasta sauce.


Ingredients

1 tsp olive oil
1 cup onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, crushed
90ml red wine
1 tbsp white sugar
1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
1 tsp chilli flakes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp lemon juice
½ tsp Italian mixed herbs
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
400g peeled and diced tomatoes
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Method

1. Heat oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic for a few minutes.

2. Stir in the wine, sugar, basil, chilli flakes, tomato paste, lemon juice, Italian seasoning, black pepper and tomatoes. Bring to a boil.

3. Reduce heat to medium and simmer uncovered, about 15 minutes. Stir in parsley.
