Recipe of the day: Barbecue pork ribs with onion rings

This Sunday, pull out all the stops for your family or guests with this home inspired flamed grilled barbecue pork ribs with onion rings.

Consuming all these carbs will be worth it as this juicy barbecue ribs dish is a recipe by popular food creator and chef Zanele van Zyl known for her social media account pages, Cooking with Zanele.

The recipe calls for a certain spice but barbecue or grilled meat seasonings would be great substitutes as well.

If you would like to make this recipe as part of your Sunday lunch feast, you can add a side of green salad, seven colours rice, fresh bread or oven-baked chips.

Barbecue pork ribs with onion rings recipe:

Pork recipes

  • 1 kg Pork ribs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp mustard powder
  • 2 Tbsp Seven Colours Grill Seasoning™
  • 1 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C.
  2. In a pot, with little water, cook ribs for 12 minutes. Place ribs in a baking tray.
  3. In a pan, add the sugar, vinegar, mustard powder, Seven Colours Grill Seasoning and paprika. Let it cook until it becomes thick.
  4. Pour sauce over the ribs and place in the oven for 20 minutes.

Seven colours grill onion rings

  1. 2 cups oil
  2. 1 cup of flour
  3. 1 tsp of baking powder
  4. 1 tbsp of Seven Colours Grill Seasoning
  5. 1 tbsp of dried thyme
  6. 1 onion, sliced into rings
  7. 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a saucepan. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, Seven Colours Grill Seasoning and thyme.
  2. Dip onion rings into the egg and then dry the mixture.
  3. Fry in oil until crispy. Place on a paper towel to drain the fat.
