Bread lovers of the world, prepare to get your socks knocked off. Today is World Sandwich Day, and carb and bread lovers all over the globe will be celebrating by creating their favourite sandwiches.
These 10 yummy sandwiches are recognised all over the world and have been served at restaurants and made at home by sandwich lovers for many years.

Spaghetti sandwich
Ingredients
- 8 slices of toast
- 3 cups of spaghetti noodles
- 1 cup of spaghetti sauce
- 8 slices of mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup of butter, softened
- 2-3 cloves of minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1½ teaspoon of Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Prepare pasta according to package directions.
- Make your spaghetti sauce, you can make homemade or just use jarred with hamburger (our homemade is linked).
- In a bowl stir together softened butter, minced garlic, garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
- In a large pan heat on low heat, spread some of your butter on one side of your Texas toast and place in pan.
- Place one slice of mozzarella cheese on top then add a little bit of spaghetti, top with some spaghetti sauce then another slice of mozzarella cheese.
- Finally add your other slice of toast and spread with a little more butter.
- Cover your pan with a lid and let grill slowly, we do this to make sure the cheese melts and it browns well.
- Flip your sandwich and repeat.
- Remove from pan and let sit for a few minutes to let cheese really melt and then slice in half if desired.

Classic grilled cheese sandwich
Ingredients
- 4 slices of white bread
- 3 tablespoons butter (divided)
- 2 slices of cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Slather one side of a slice of bread with butter. Place the bread butter-side-down in the skillet and add one slice of cheese.
- Butter another slice of bread and place it butter-side-up onto your sandwich.
- Grill the sandwich until it’s lightly browned on one side and then flip. Continue grilling until both sides are browned and the cheese is melted.
- Repeat with the remaining ingredients for a second sandwich.
- Slice in half, serve, and enjoy!

Easy tuna melt sandwich
Ingredients
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 2 English muffins, halved
- 57g of cheddar cheese
- 170g of white flaked tuna in water, drained
- 1 stalk celery, finely diced
- 1 green onion, sliced
- ⅓ cup of mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon of dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon of lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 204°C.
- Combine tuna salad ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
- Place the English muffin halves on a baking sheet and broil 2-3 minutes or until they start to brown. Remove from the oven.
- Divide the tuna mixture over the English muffins. Top with tomato slices and cheddar cheese.
- Bake 10-15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Broil 1 minute if desired.

Chicken Caesar sandwich
Ingredients
- 4 chicken breasts
- ⅓ cup of Caesar salad dressing
- 57g of fresh green
- 2 avocados
- 8 slices of whole grain bread
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your grill pan. Brush 1 tablespoon of olive oil over each side of the chicken breast. Grill the chicken breast 3-5 minutes on each side depending on thickness. Alternatively you can heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a medium skillet over medium high heat and cook chicken flipping once, until cooked through.
- Let the chicken rest 5 minutes before slicing across the grain.
- On the meantime, grill the bread on each side until you see grilled marks and the bread is toasted. Spread 2 tablespoons of Caesar dressing over one slice of bread. Arrange chicken breast, avocados and greens over 4 slices of bread. Add more Caesar salad dressing if desired over the greens and place the other slice of bread.
- Serve.

The best ham sandwich
Ingredients
- 1 French baguette
- 170g of whipped or extra creamy goat cheese
- 4-6 tablespoons of spicy pepper jam
- 57g of arugula
- 450g of deli ham, sliced very thin
Instructions
- Slice the bread in half lengthwise, forming two flat halves. Spread the goat cheese on each section of bread. Layer arugula on the bottom half and then ham over the greens. Fold and crumple the ham as you layer it on the bread. Form piles of ham across the bread to create the best texture.
- Spoon the jam over the goat cheese on the top half of the bread. Close the sandwich and slice into smaller sections. Serve immediately.

Sweet chili pesto burger sliders
Ingredients
- 450g of minced Beef
- ¼ teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt
- ¼ teaspoon of black pepper
- 3 tablespoon of green pesto
- 1 egg
- 2 tomatoes
- 2 tablespoon of pesto
- Sweet chilli sauce to your taste
- Mixed salad leaves or lamb lettuce
- 9 mini burger buns
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix minced beef, salt, pepper, pesto and egg until well combined. Form into patties by rolling the mixture into a bowl and then flattening it. You should get about 9-10 patties.
- Place each patty on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Transfer in the oven and bake at 375°F/190°C for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
- Cut each bun in half. Take the bottom piece. Spread sweet chili sauce over. Lamb lettuce goes on next. Tomato slice. About a teaspoon of pesto. Burger patty. More lettuce. Cover with bun.
- Pierce with burger skewer and serve!

Philly cheesesteak sandwich
Ingredients
- 450g of skirt or flank steak
- 1⁄2 tablespoon of canola or peanut oil, plus more if needed
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cups of sliced mushrooms
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 slices of provolone
- 4 whole-wheat hoagie rolls, lightly toasted

- Place the steak in the freezer for 20 minutes to firm up (this will help you slice it).
- Use a very sharp knife to cut the thinnest strips possible from the beef.
- Heat the oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onions and cook for about 5 minutes, until soft and lightly browned.
- Add the bell pepper and mushrooms and continue to cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until all of the vegetables are browned. Remove and reserve.
- Swirl in enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan and add the sliced steak.
- Season with salt and pepper right away, then use a spatula or tongs to keep the steak moving.
- After the steak has browned on all sides (because it’s thin, this will happen quickly—4 to 5 minutes).
- Within the pan, divide the steak and veggie mixture into 4 equal piles and top each with a slice of provolone.
- Continue cooking for about 1 minute, just until the provolone has melted.
- Serve each pile on a hoagie roll.

Meatball sub sandwich
Ingredients
- 16 frozen meatballs or homemade below
- 2 cups of pasta sauce or marinara sauce
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 4 tablespoons of garlic butter
- 1 cup of shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 450g of lean ground beef
- 1 egg
- ½ cup of seasoned bread crumbs
- ½ teaspoon of Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon of onion powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare meatballs as directed on package or for homemade meatballs, combine all meatball ingredients.
- Roll balls and place on a parchment lined pan. Bake at 176C for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
- Place cooked meatballs in a saucepan with pasta sauce and simmer covered 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, spread garlic butter inside each roll. Heat broiler and broil rolls until golden, about 3 minutes.
- Arrange rolls in a 9×13 baking dish. Place 4 meatballs in each roll and top with a little bit of sauce and cheese.
- Broil 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve with additional sauce for dipping if desired.

Ultimate clubhouse sandwich
Ingredients
- 12 slices of Wheat Bread
- 8 slices of cooked bacon
- 8 slices of Black Forest Ham
- 8 slices of smoked turkey meat
- 2 avocados, sliced
- 4 large pieces of lettuce
- 4 pieces of Swiss cheese
- Mayo

Instructions
- Toast all 12 slices of Dempster’s Honey Wheat Bread.
- Place mayo on the bottom slice of the sandwich, then place 2 pieces of bacon on top, followed by a piece of Swiss Cheese and tomato slices.

- Lay 2 slices of ham and turkey on top of the toasted bread, followed by the avocado and the lettuce.
- Spread mayo on the last piece of bread, then place on top.
- Cut in half (or 4 pieces traditionally) and hold together with large toothpicks.

Ingredients
- 4 slices of bread your favorite variety
- 6 slices of thick cut bacon
- 2 tomatoes large, ripe
- 4 leaves of lettuce iceberg
- 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Wash lettuce, dry and cut into thin shreds. Slice tomatoes into thick slices.
- Cook bacon until crisp, drain on paper towel and set aside.
- Toast bread until lightly browned, butter if desired and set aside.
