Pop some corks at The Bubbly Festival this weekend

If you fancy tasting some of the world's best Champagne, head to Hyde Park for the Bubbly Festival.

Since winter seems to have hit Johannesburg with a vengeance this week, you may want to enjoy some indoor entertainment.

To that end, if you’re a fan of great Champagne and  food, you may want to head down to Hyde Park Corner this weekend for The Bubbly Festival, a weekend during which over 26 MCC estates will be showcasing their best. Attendees will be able to sample champagne, prosecco, a couple of beers on off and The Duchess, a non-alcoholic gin & tonic

The main focus however – as the Festival’s name implies – focuses on local bubbly. The organisers have a rather impressive list of the the estates presenting their wares.

“[Among them are] Graham Beck, who will showcase their Blanc de Blanc, Brut and Brut Rosé; Anthonij Rupert Wines, with their L’Ormarins range; Bon Courage; Genevieve MCC; Pierre Jourdan Brut and Belle Rose from Haute Cabrière; Spier and Krone. Also Silverthorn who will show The Green Man 2015, The Genie Rose NV and The Jewel Box 2014, which is a new vintage from this estate – so festival-goers will be among the first to taste it,” reads the press release.

“Also, in the line-up is the Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel which was the first South African wine made according to the traditional method, known in South Africa, as Méthode Cap Classique and Tanzanite, made by one of South Africa’s first female sparkling wine specialists Melanie van der Merwe.”

On top of that, attendees have a delectable array of foods to choose from including sushi, oysters (naturally), poke bowls, meze platters, pizza and there’ll be a biltong stand.

There will also be live music from the Jacques Lagesse and Veronique Lalouette. Oh, if you make it down on Saturday, you can watch theRoyal Wedding which will be shown live on a big screen.
