Lock, stock and wine barrel: Wine gurus you should be following

Last week I was erroneously copied in an e-mail from a public relations person, the e-mail subject “Wine Influencers”.

The list is a who’s who of influencers with a following, plugging whatever they can get for free. Almost none ever write or share information about wine on their channels, let alone try to expand the wine industry or talk about its challenges and its numerous successes.

The popular hotel chain that sent out the e-mail might host a number of events focused around wine so they want these people there for trending purposes. But what good does it do when these people don’t serve as a bridge between the public and the wine industry?

So, if you’re in the market to follow some real wine gurus here is the list of those you should be following:

Dan Really Likes Wine

From videos to fun little snippets on social media Dan Nicolls is most famous as a sport show host, but his engaging way of introducing new and established wine estates to an audience makes him a must-follow.

Emile Joubert

One of the country’s last expert wine writers, Joubert has a way of sharing honest and brilliant opinions. He’s so well connected that he often breaks industry news.

Winifred Bowman

The maven of the industry, whose passion has seen her judge and taste the bounty of the country’s wines makes her the go-to person for information. She’s witty and always shares expert advice that’s for everyone.
