Lock, stock and wine barrel: Nonalcoholic wines

It’s getting easier to have little habits like a glass of wine after work thanks to nonalcoholic wines and drinks.

Not only do many of these have less calories as there’s no alcohol present, they also don’t taste as bad as you’d assume.

Here are some great nonalcoholic options  if you are tired of tipple after the endless festivities in December.

Robertson Winery launched its first nonalcoholic sparkling wines, both sweet, in 2012, bringing bubbly drinking rituals to nonalcoholic markets.

Last year, Robertson extended this popular range to include a dry nonalcoholic sparkling wine suitable for summer.

For the dry option, the alcohol in this wine has been carefully removed to preserve the fruity aromas and vibrant flavours.

Robertson Winery’s range of nonalcoholic sparkling wines includes a Sweet Sparkling Wine, a Sweet Sparkling Pink and the new Dry Sparkling White. All three are available from R50 per bottle.

Leopard’s Leap also became popular for their de-alcoholised wine and their red and white offerings.

Natura Red is made from cinsaut and cabernet sauvignon grapes and features a smooth spiciness and a lingering aftertaste.

Delightful on its own and an outstanding partner on the dinner table, it’s low in calories as well as being vegan-friendly.

On the flip side, Natura Classic White is made from chenn blanc and muscat grapes with a palate that is crisp and refreshing, with tropical fruit flavours and integrated palate.

Both sell for R60.
