Lock, stock and wine barrel: FindWine

The website helps wine lovers connect with award-winning wines at prices they’d like to pay.

A new website – findwine.com – is democratising wine like never before.

While there are many apps available to identify wines with AR, you still need to poke through some crevices of the internet to find what you want.

While FindWine only lists wines recognised by Platter’s, Decanter and Tim Atkins, it gives you the option to determine how much you are willing to spend.

The quick working website not only celebrates SA wine, it’s actually a great learning tool to help wine lovers connect with award-winning wines at prices they’d like to pay.

The interface is simple: Pick the type of wine you want (categories are red, white, bubbly, dessert and rosé) before entering how much you are willing to spend.

You’ll be surprised at how many options come up. Under R50 there’s a decent list of reds and whites, and the website gives you comparisons.

There’s a middle ground of wines under – and just over – R100 that are often overlooked in favour of award-winning wine – and FindWine gives you great access to information on these specifically.

The good news is that the current listings are only South African, and it’s the sort of database that’s often missing from international apps that often carry limited information when it comes to local wines that are rated from 0 to 10.
