Krunch: Your one-stop health café
The menu encourages a portion-sized meal with all the nutritional requirements needed to live healthily.
No stranger to fitness and healthy lifestyle living, entrepreneur and TV personality Boitumeo “Boity” Thulo has made a name for herself for her well-toned body.
Throughout her career, the 28-year-old has maintained a well-balanced lifestyle – working out in gym and eating right food.
Being in the limelight, Thulo needs to be red-carpet ready for any occasion and with the help of her trainer, they put in the necessary time in the gym which leaves them with satisfying results.
“I work out a minimum of three times a week, keeping my diet clean yet enjoyable with a cheat day on weekends. The best I can do is work out daily from Monday to Friday. I do not take rest for granted,” says Thulo.”
Having a fitness support system of friends like TV presenter Mbali Nkosi, fashion and beauty bloggers Melody Molale and Sarah Langa-Mackay, fitness trainer Mapule Ndhlovu and entrepreneur Neo Kgolane, proves to have its benefits when group dynamics are focused on looking great for the upcoming Beyoncé and Jay-Z concert in Paris later this year.
Thulo says: “I have always been a regular at Krunch. I love how they’ve made healthy food so unusually delicious and enjoyable. I would always pop in for a meal before or after a gym session.
One afternoon, the owner Daniel approached me and asked if I’d be interested in partnering with Krunch as an ambassador, seeing as I had become such a lover of the space and the food.
“I didn’t hesitate to agree because I felt it was the perfect brand alignment. We have come up with such fantastic ideas around making health and fitness fun. I’m looking forward to sharing them with everyone.”
After working out a sweat in the gym, the friends cool off over a healthy organic lunch from Krunch café, which is run by couple Daniel and Talya Brouze, who have managed to tie in both their passion for healthy eating and business.
Located outside the Alice Lane business park in Sandton, north of Joburg, the café is fast becoming a top hang-out spot for Thulo and her fitness junky friends.
Their menu is one that encourages a portion-sized meal consisting of all the nutritional requirements needed to live healthily – whether it’s a quick snack between meetings or training, or just a balanced meal.
Q and A with Daniel Brouze from Krunch
1. What exactly is Krunch?
Krunch is a fast casual dining restaurant which serves healthy, delicious and affordable food. We make food you know into a delicious healthy alternative.
2. Where did the concept for the restaurant emerge?
Krunch was founded in 2014 as we recognised the gap for healthy delicious fast food in the South Africa market. We wanted to make South Africans healthier by making healthy food more convenient and accessible. The concept has since evolved through our years of experience and international travel in order to bring our customers the latest food trends.
3. How is the food prepared and served?
Our food is prepared daily using the freshest and, where possible, local ingredients. We create our own sauces and dressings using olive oil and fresh herbs and spices which are gluten-free and MSG-free. We cook with integrity, right down to the aspects that our customers can’t see.
For example, we do not use any canned veggies as our napolitana sauce is made from fresh tomato and our chickpeas and beans are cooked from raw. We love eating fresh and healthy and we want our customers to be able to do this too.
4. What is the relationship between Krunch and Boity?
We met Boity as she was eating at our establishment about three days a week. Hence our relationship with her developed and that is why she is the perfect brand ambassador. She genuinely loves Krunch and has a real dedication to health and fitness.
