Falling drunk is safer than if you’re sober

Be honest now, how many of us have laughed at someone else tripping and falling?

Whether it’s a fall compilation on YouTube or a segment on America’s Funniest Home Videos, we’ve all giggled at other people’s falls. That’s because, when it doesn’t pose a danger, falling can be quite funny to watch – especially if the person isn’t even drunk.

When it does come to drunken people falling, it is a lot funnier and, strangely enough, they are at less risk of serious injury than sober people. But why is that?

The findings of a study by the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute found that intoxicated patients do, in fact, survive traumatic injury more often than those who are sober.

After analysing data from 7,985 trauma patients, the study suggests that alcohol appears to act as a buffer that inhibits certain stress-related chemicals released when a person suffers a major injury.

But hey, why should we believe the findings of a bunch of bored geeks all the way in LA? It’s said that seeing is believing – so why not watch this short video of drunken people falling and make up your own mind.

REMEMBER: Drink responsibly over this upcoming long Easter weekend and, if you tend to overdo it, make sure your medical aid is up to date.
