Born in Joburg: The city’s newest food truck market

From wings, ice cream and wine, Born in Joburg is Johannesburg’s newest addition to the food market scene.

Food trucks are a staple when it comes to food markets across the world. Unfortunately, in some areas, they’re only accessible on weekends and, if you are lucky, near your office park.

Born in Joburg is Johannesburg’s newest addition to the food market scene. Just like any market they want to bring family and friends together, particularly family-based activities, the statement read.

There will be a line-up of eight of Jozi’s beloved food trucks such as Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream, Tjips Co, Killer Coffee, Napz Autentica Pizza Napoletana, The Wings Republic and Wine Tap.

The best wings in town, The Wings Republic, has few locations in the country because of their secret spices. The flavoured, twice battered chicken is fried for about 8-10 minutes and then served with buffalo sauce and plated with your favourite sides.

On the sweet end, Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream is popular in Johannesburg. The artisanal ice cream shop has a few stores in malls. From luxury brownie gift sets, ice cream cakes to ice cream sundaes, those who have a sweet tooth will love this.

Local illustrator Qondile Dlamini, better known as @Qew_doodles, will be printing limited-edition merchandise available to purchase at Born in Joburg market.

There will be performances by artists such as Diddy Q and Bon Bon Vie, live DJs, activities for the kids, e-scooter tours, a craft bar, and a sundowners rooftop experience.

The Born in Joburg e-scooter tour experience will be at a discount price for all scooter rides purchased at the market.

Tickets are available via Quicket, and can be purchased at the entrance for R30 per adult. Admission for kids under 12 years old is free.

This food truck market will take place on Friday 26 November (4pm–9pm) and Saturday 27 November.
