You know it’s going to be a colourful party when the dress code is shades of pink and red. This is how renowned gin brand, Bombay Sapphire, welcomed their new flavour.
Hosting their brunch at Raddison Red’s rooftop in Rosebank, the affair was summer at its finest as host, Ayanda MVP, welcomed the guests.
The new addition to the Bombay Sapphire family is the 100% natural berry infusion called Bramble.
The Bramble infusion is mixed with berries such as blackberries, bramble berries and raspberries. It has no added sugar or artificial flavours, making it a great addition to a classic gin and tonic.
The Bramble gin was served either with a tonic and soda water cocktail or my favourite – the Clover Club cocktail.
Expertly demonstrated by Nkuli Khanyile, the Gauteng trade ambassador for Bacardi, the cocktail consists of gin, lemon juice, raspberry syrup and a vegan egg white substitute, aquafaba.
Aquafaba is the juice from canned chickpeas and acts as an emulsifier. Thus, when the drink is shaken, a characteristic foamy head is formed.

The Bramble gin is quite tart and has a sour taste that makes sense because of the berries infused. The gin will complement sweet cocktail mixtures well, giving it a fresh and balanced taste.
The gin was also a great accompaniment to the food served.
Head chef at the Radisson Red, chef Genghis San, wanted to take people back to their childhoods with some of his menu items, which were inspired by the key ingredient – bramble berry.
The menu consisted of rooibos scones topped with bramble syrup, blackberry chia muesli with Bombay gin-infused soil, spicy chicken liver spring rolls, sweet chilli poke bowl, and a black and red pancake stake.
All the dishes were naturally sweet with no added sugar, a fabulous way to celebrate a day out.
Bombay Bramble is priced from R299.
