e-Hailing service Bolt has finally joined their competitors in offering food delivery.
Bolt made the announcement on Wednesday, a decision that took over five years after UberEats started their service.
The rollout in Johannesburg comes after a successful launch in Cape Town in April. The service aims to give customers more options to choose from – be it breakfast, lunch or dinner.
James Townsend-Rose, South Africa’s manager for Bolt Food, said their service in Cape Town had more than 800 restaurants on their app.

“Restaurants and their customers welcomed Bolt Food’s affordable prices and quick deliveries, and we are excited to bring this solution to Johannesburg, and to other South African cities in the coming months,” he said.
Customers can expect the standard fast food options including Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway, Andiccio’s, Del Forno and much more.
The app service is currently available from Bryanston in the north, to Braamfontein in the city and will spread across the city once more restaurants sign up to the platform.
Bolt Food says delivery fees will not be charged for orders where the distance between the food outlet and the delivery destination is less than 4.5 kilometres for the launch period.
People interested have already shared some of their frustrations about the lack of availability.
Customers can also expect discounts of up to 50 per cent from selected restaurants. There are even rewards for Absa customers who can get up to 30 per cent cashback on their Bolt Food orders paid for with qualifying cards.
The brand will need to compete with UberEats and Mr D Food, however, consumers are ready for more food delivery services that will get them the best deals.
Bolt also needs to consider how it can repair some reputation damage that has affected its business, particularly with many safety concerns shared on social media.
Bolt Food can be downloaded on the App Store for iPhone users and Google Playstore for Andriod Users.
