This lovely tart is hearty and flavourful, thanks to all its canned ingredients.

Serves: 8

Time: 40 minutes

Level: Medium

INGREDIENTS:

1 packet chopped bacon
1 Koo can chakalaka with butternut
1 red/brown onion (sliced)
6 eggs
500ml cream
1 cup cheddar cheese (grated)
1 cup feta cheese blocks
100ml brown sugar
50ml balsamic vinegar
1 roll of puff pastry
Sunflower oil, butter

METHOD:

1. Preheat oven to 180oC.
Grease baking dish.

2. Roll out pastry until even.
Lay the bottom of baking dish with the pastry.

3. Melt butter in a pan and fry onions and chopped bacon until onion is translucent and bacon is cooked. Add brown sugar and balsamic vinegar.

4. Add chakalaka and butternut mix into a separate bowl. Add the onion, bacon and feta into the bowl and mix together.

5. Spoon the ingredients evenly over pastry.

6. Whisk eggs and cream together. Add egg and cream mix on top and let it cover all the ingredients.

7. Top with cheese. Bake for 30 minutes until cheese is golden brown and tart is firm.
