Ask the doctor: Hearing check and diabetes

Dr Dulcy Rakumakoe shares advice on reader questions.

Dear doctor, I have a white milky buildup that appears in the corner of my eye. What could this be?

It could be an infection or inflammation. Are the eyes red? Any swelling? It is important that you please see a doctor to check what the cause is and get treatment.

Dear doctor, when is the best time to get your child’s hearing tested? I mean in terms of age.

Children from infancy are very responsive to sounds. Snapping fingers should make them follow the sound with their heads. If you suspect the child at any age does not hear, please visit an audiologist to be sure.

Dear doctor, does diabetes lead to leg amputations?

Yes. It is important that you have your sugar always under control to make sure blood-flow to limbs is normal.
