5 ways to keep your eyes healthy

Protect your eyesight with these tips for eye health.

If you want to prevent becoming prone to diseases and eye conditions such as glaucoma or cataracts as you age, you should take care of your eye health from now.

Here are some ways in which you can take care of your eyes, as suggested by The U.S. National Institute on Aging.

Protect your eyes from the outside

You can protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun by wearing protective sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat. Be sure to keep these items in your car so that you have them on hand when going out for the day.

Consume a healthy diet

Ensure that you are eating a healthy and balanced diet daily. Try including some foods that contain nutrients which support good eye heath. If you need help creating a diet plan of healthy and balanced meals or need to find out more about foods that support good eye health, seek the help of a dietician.

Maintain healthy blood pressure levels

Always strive toward maintaining a healthy blood pressure level. Managing stress effectively is just one of the ways in which you can achieve this, so take action today if you are not already doing so.

Manage diabetes

If you are diabetic, be sure to keep it under control. Seek advice from your medical doctor regarding this.

Prevent eye strain

Do not strain your eyes in any way, especially on a regular basis. For example, do not sit too close to your computer or television screen and stare at it for continuous periods of time. Rather look away from these items every 20 minutes or so, to prevent/limit eye strain.

Always see your doctor or optometrist if you are concerned about your eye health.
