Themba Dlamini is more than just a stylist – he’s a pioneer shaping the future of South African fashion.
At the helm of South African Fashion Circle (SAFC), he’s bringing local fashion to the mainstream in ways never seen before.

“The platform is about creating concepts that bring South African fashion to the consumer,” he said. 

Whether through fashion shows, exclusive brunches, or curated digital experiences, SAFC is
redefining how local brands connect with their audience.

With the rise of social media, traditional marketing no longer holds the same power. “A simple poster on social media won’t grab attention, which is where we step in to create immersive experiences,” he said.

Road to becoming a fashion powerhouse

Dlamini’s journey into fashion wasn’t straightforward.

After struggling to decide what to study post-matric, he eventually discovered his calling in fashion.

Despite financial constraints forcing him to drop out of fashion school, his determination never wavered.
He channeled his passion into projects that would shape his career, launching the sports-leisure brand Obafemi and co-owning Oak Ave and Oak Magazine. 

These ventures allowed him to style some of SA’s most celebrated figures, and work with powerhouse brands like Netflix, Avon, AFI, and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Crafting looks for SA’s biggest stars.

Each project brings unique challenges, but his ability to blend classic elegance with a modern edge keeps his work fresh and in demand.

Dlamini’s styling portfolio reads like a who’s who of South African entertainment. His expertise has graced stars such as Tsholofelo Matshaba, Thembi Seete, actress NoxoloDlamini, Mama Abigail Kubeka, and Advertisement “>Wiseman Zitha.

Fashion as a safe space:

A childhood passion Dlamini’s love for fashion is deeply personal. “As a kid, it created a safe space for me,” he remembered.

Even in high school, he was experimenting, creating a custom denim bucket hat with an opening at the top for his dreads. “People thought I was weird, but they loved it,” he laughs.

Then, he realized that fashion was more than clothes a means of self-expression.

As we step into the 2025 autumn-winter season, Dlamini predicts a surge in bold colours, prints, and natural fabrics, with a strong focus on sourcing pieces from local designers.

 “I’ve seen beautifully crafted knits from the likes of Boys of Soweto, Imprint, Thula Sindi, and GugubyGugu,” he said, adding that one brand to watch is Isiqhaza, known for its innovative knitwear.
