Prior to the pandemic, Instagram was filled with images of what felt like almost everyone enjoying themselves on some kind of boat during the festive season. Almost two years later, it seems we’re about to relive that period.
With the festive season coinciding with lockdown level 1 and eased restrictions, more and more people are going out and being social again. After being cooped up for so long, people are itching to go out so the coast is bound to get busy this festive season.
If one of your festive season activities involves being out on the water, we’ve got a style guide compiled by fashion brand Nautica which describes the best options of what to wear to a boat party.
According to Nautica, standard “boat clothing” is defined by effortlessness and practicality. This is because being on a boat is relaxing and the structure of your outfit should reflect that.
“The colours most associated with the nautical heritage are blue, white and red. But not just any blue. The nautical colour blue is a dark rich blue or navy blue that makes for a dramatic contrast with white. It is the most classy and timeless nautical colour scheme and looks. Avoid black and dark colours in the heat of summer,” advises Nautica.
The brand further explains that the key thing to focus on is fabric that is lightweight and breezy, so whether you’re opting for a crisp white T-shirt or a button-down shirt paired with men’s beacon chino pants or men’s anchor deck shorts, your choice of style should feel resort-inspired and like you’re on a holiday.
“This is a nostalgic way to give a nod to your on-water venue. By adding a pair of classic sunglasses and a cap you’ll be ready for whatever the day may throw at you on the sea.”
