Mbuso Khoza and the Afrikan Heritage Ensemble – Isandlwana Lecture

When: 25 January 2020

Time: 7.30pm

Venue: Joburg Theatre, 163 Civic Blvd, Braamfontein

Joburg Theatre remembers the Battle of Isandlwana with a special lecture and performance by Mbuso Khoza and the Afrikan Heritage Ensemble. The evening is presented as a ‘musical lecture’ narrated through song with Khoza joined by the 16-voice strong acapella collective of the Afrikan Heritage Ensemble. Together Khoza and the ensemble interpret Amahubo, ancient African songs traditionally sung by Abanguni griots and composers that capture historically significant moments that future generations can learn from. 

Secret Sunrise

When: 26 January 2020

Time: 8.30am – 9.30am

Price: R125 for adults, R85 for kids

Venue: Keys Art Mile, 19-21 Keyes Ave, Rosebank

Join the international Secret Sunrise movement in Rosebank this month for a quirky and fun Sunday morning workout with a twist. Secret Sunrise is all about encouraging people to get out of their comfort zone and try out something new. Fuelled with a cup of coffee, arrive early and dressed up in your best dancing shoes. Then grab a pair of the provided wireless headphones and get ready to allow the zany instructors to guide you through a themed hour of guided dancing.

Grow Wild Walk

When: 25 January 2020

Time: 11am – 9pm

Price: R300

Venue: Hout Bay, Cape Town 

Grow Wild is a wonderful outdoor opportunity for children of all ages to explore nature and reconnect. Kids will be led on amazing adventures by guides who are experienced facilitators and educators. To inspire a love for nature, the time is spent playing fun cooperative games, making arts and crafts from natural materials as well as walking and climbing.

Wear comfortable clothes (rain gear if needed), walking shoes and bring a light healthy snack and water.

Kids Village Market

When: 25 January 2020 

Time: 10am – 3pm

Price: R10 – R35 

Venue: Muizenberg Village, Cape Town

Little entrepreneurs are invited to sell their makes and bakes at this village market which will also host a market section for adults, a daily goods market and an art row. Look forward to a range of kid’s activities and a children’s show performed by the Jungle Theatre.

Chef Nti pop-up at Market on Main 

When: 26 January 2020 

Time: 12pm – 12.20pm

Price: R55-R85 

Venue: Market on Main, 264 Fox Street, Johannesburg 

Hot on the heels of the release of her cookbook My Modern African Kitchen in September 2019, Maboneng-based Chef Nti, whose exclusive pop-up dinners at her private dining space The Taste Kitchen have garnered a cult following, presents a special stall at the weekly Market on Main at Arts on Main this Sunday. On offer at Nti’s pop-up stall at the market check out tastings of her latest dishes and try her addictive new range of sauces inspired by typical African flavours, including a chakalaka sauce.
