Terry Pheto scores top role

The award-winning actress and producer Terry Pheto has joined the cast of BAFTA award- winning writer and director Amma Asante’s new feature film, A United Kingdom, starring Britain’s David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike.

Filming for A United Kingdom began on October 10, 2015, in Botswana, where Terry Pheto is currently based and where she will remain shooting until early November. Amma Asanta, who is well-known for her much praised 2013 drama, Belle, took to Twitter to express her sentiments about Pheto joining the cast: “I have adored @TerryPheto ever since she wowed in Tsotsi. We welcome her to the cast of @AUKFilm #AUnitedKingdom.”

Pheto joins a star-studded cast that sees both Oyelowo and Pike coming off awards season buzz for their films Selma and Gone Girl, respectively, Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Arnold Oceng (Adulthood), Jack Lowden (‘71) and Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey).

Described as an “epic love story”, the film is based on the true story of Botswana’s first president, Seretse Khama, who fell in love with a London office worker, Ruth Williams, who became the First Lady of Botswana.
