947 announces DJ Fresh replacement and it’s Thando Thabethe

Radio station 947 has found a replacement after DJ Fresh (Thato Sikwane) and Primedia made a “mutual” decision for him to leave the afternoon drive show.

In January the DJ announced he would be taking a step back from all public engagements pending an investigation into sexual assault charges brought against him.

A month later, the station announced it would be parting ways with DJ Fresh and his co-accused, Euphonik.

The station has announced the replacement will be former 5FM drive time host and actress Thando Thabethe. She left 5FM in April 2020 after six years after finding out her show had ended without anyone informing her.

Popular known as Thando Thabooty, 947 said in a statement that her show will be titled 947 Drive with Thando and air during weekdays from 3-7pm with co-host Alex Caige.

Station manager Thando Makhunga said due to Thabethe more than 10 years of experience, she has the spirit and energy the station’s listeners like.

Thabethe says she is excited about the new venture.

“I have always loved radio as a medium to genuinely connect with people through music and conversation. I believe that music is a true leveler, bringing people together in a place and time that is just about what they are hearing and how it makes them feel.

“I can’t wait to get behind the mic and contribute to our 947 audience’s listening experience.”

Her new colleagues, breakfast show host Anele Mdoda and Mantsoe Pout, welcomed her with open arms.
