The 36 contenders nominated in the awards ceremony’s nine categories span 19 countries, and the winners will be announced during the ceremony in New York City on 25 November.
LNN was nominated in the Comedy category, alongside British show Moone Boy, Workingirls from France, and Brazil’s How to Enjoy the End of the World.
In the eNCA parody show, currently in its 8th season, funnyman Gola puts a spin on current affairs and breaking news through comical sketch inserts and commentary. The cast includes a team of ‘field reporters’ comprised of top South African comedians, among them Riaad Moosa, David Kibuuka, Chester Missing, and Jason Cope.
Announcing the news, an excited Gola tweeted: “LNN JUST NOMINATED FOR AN EMMY AWARD. THANKS ALL FOR THE LOVE.”
The LNN anchor later added: “I wonder if my debit orders know that I got an Emmy nomination. They must relax.”
Also in the running for an International Emmy is ‘MasterChef South Africa’, a nominee in the Non-Scripted category alongside ‘Go Back to Where You Came From’ (Australia), Dear Neighbors Help Our Daughter Find Love (Israel), and Reto al Chef 2 (Colombia).
