Thuso Mdebu named top eight rising stars to watch by Vogue UK

She will be starring in director Barry Jenkins' 'The Underground Railroad', set to be released on Amazon Prime.


Well known actress Thuso Medbu, nominated for an International Emmy in 2018 for her portrayal of Winnie in Is’thunzi, has received more international praise but now coming from Vogue UK.

The fashion powerhouse publication named their eight sensational rising stars to watch from the biggest releases on Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, Amazon Prime and many others.

Mdebu was named on the list, as she will be starring in director Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad, set to be released on Amazon Prime.

The 11 episode TV adaptation is based on the Pulitzer Prize 2016 novel by Colson Whitehead. Set in pre-civil war era of slavery, the period drama focuses on the story of Cora, played by Mdebu, a slave attempting to escape a horrific reality.

The star shared a screenshot of the article on her Instagram, she wrote: “Things to look forward to. ”

There has been no formal announcement on the release date of the series, but it is expected to be soon.
