A premium cognac renowned the world over + a Johannesburg rooftop bar that offers the city’s most breathtaking views + a ‘legend-in-the-making’ chef + one of the country’s most celebrated interior designers and inspired artwork from undiscovered South African talent.
These are just some of the captivating elements that have gone into creating the D’usse Pop Up Cocktail Bar at Hallmark House.
D’usse Cognac is a byproduct of a partnership between supernova hip hop artist Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter and Bacardi Limited.
Conceived as a six-week experience, the cocktail bar will live as a weekend rooftop gallery and cocktail bar, open on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Sunday mornings from 11am for an all-day brunch offering.
From December 13 2019, until January 12 2020, the venue will offer Jozi stay-cationers the classic Joburg festive experience – appetizing cocktails, great food, amazing music, gorgeous views and sheer, unadulterated ambience.

The names behind the initiative read like a collaboration between Jozi and the world’s finest – Chef Katlego Mlambo was once selected by Barack Obama to curate a dinner for the once-in-a-lifetime Mandela USA 100 Year tribute event and recently won the rising-star award at The Eat Out Awards.
Interior architect Tristan Du Plessis’ list of awards includes 2019 Restaurant and Bar design awards in London, Hotel of the Year at the 2019 AHEAD Awards (Middle East & Africa).
Add to this top-ranking mix, property pioneers TJ and Louis Steyn of the Saxon Hotel and Steyn City, the Lalela Art Project – a groundbreaking initiative focused on at-risk youth, and Dale de Ruig, who established the evocatively elegant Marabi Club.
Collectively, they have come together to curate an experience that will doubtlessly enhance how Joburgers do festive.
“D’usse Cognac has distinguished itself as a premium offering that can be both traditional and iconic, as well as adventurous and bold,” said Area Director for Bacardi in Sub-Saharan Africa Francois Portier in a statement.
“The D’usse Pop-Up Cocktail Bar at Hallmark House is an amazing representation of what the brand is about. The collaboration between seasoned, world-renowned players and vibrant new talent, working together to create a memorable experience that defines Joburg’s timeless energy, a space where incredible moments and timeless memories will be made,” he added.
The experience certainly promises to deliver festive season essentials – D’usse Cognac’s most delectable cocktails, elegantly paired up with Chef Katlego’s flavoursome culinary offerings, all set in an exquisitely designed rooftop space – the perfect setting to ring in the new decade.
The D’usse Pop-Up Cocktail Bar at Hallmark House is located at 54 Siemert Rd, New Doornfontein, Johannesburg. The establishment will open on December 13 2019, and be open every weekend (Fridays – Sundays) until January 12 2020
