A pregnant mom's worst nightmare right now is to infect their child with a current global pandemic.

This nightmare became a reality for a mom who tested positive to Covid-19 on arrival to the maternity ward. The mom was asymptomatic, which means she did not show any coronavirus symptoms.
Durban’s Ahmed Al-Kadi (AAK) Hospital, like every hospital, is testing every patient that they are admitting, and this new mom was one of them. The hospital then proceeded with the woman’s c-section, which was successful. The child, unfortunately, also tested positive.
According to AAK chairperson, Dr. Ayob Moosa Bux “mothers who are to deliver their babies can take comfort in the fact that they will be screened before admittance. Their results will be made available to the doctors so they are treated and will not pose a risk to other patients who may be Covid-19 negative.”
The good news is that both mom and baby have been discharged from hospital and are recovering well.
