Dr Dulcy is here to answer your questions

Hello Dr Dulcy! My child is 3 and has developed heat rash, what is the best cure for heat rash during the summer holidays?

Good day,

First and foremost you need to have this properly diagnosed as heat rash and nothing else. Mild heat rash will usually clear by itself by removing the child from exposure to heat and cooling the skin. Look out for signs of it getting worse or infected like pain, swelling, warmth, pus or even fever and chills and rush child to doctor. Prevent it by keeping child in shade, dressing in loose fitting clothes and keeping sleeping area well ventilated and cool. If there is itching something like calamine can help. What will also work is bathing the child in cool water with non drying soap, then letting their skin air-dry instead of using a towel.
