Bonang, Boity and Black Coffee make headlines

After weeks and weeks of corruption scandals, protests and our dear president losing his appeal on his corruption charges, this weekend has probably given South Africa the break it needed. We know how emotional soccer fans get when their favourite team loses, but this was not the case for us on Saturday when Bafana Bafana beat Botswana to win the Cosafa cup. It seems the “white Boks didn’t conspire to intentionally lose their match” either, as they beat Ireland 19-13 on Saturday night too, so everyone should be happy.

The entertainment world was also in celebration mode with the BET Awards taking place —  the first to hold such weight on South Africans as we were well represented. Nandi Mngoma and Bonang Matheba presented the show’s red carpet while Emtee, AKA, Black Coffee and Cassper Nyovest represented on the music front.

This has indeed been a great year for the Maphumulo family; Mbali’s acting career and clothing line have been soaring, with her maternity line selling out in just weeks after the launch. Husband Black Coffee’s album Pieces Of Me went platinum just after days of its release and became the album that opened big doors for him on an international level. The muso became the first South African artist to win a BET award, getting words of congratulations from all artists, including AKA, who begrudgingly did so using the opportunity on Twitter to tell his fans “Black Coffee and I don’t dig each other”. Obviously, this did not sit well with Coffee fans, as #AKAwinanga started trending again.

Anyway, the Maphumulo couple attended the awards looking gorgeous; we know Mbali always dresses on point, but this time she outdid herself. How they were not nominated in the You Spectacular Best Couple category still baffles me. Take a look:

Congratulations to Black Coffee, he deserves it.

However, things weren’t as bad for AKA as people on Twitter made out, as he was celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday. Bonang posted a picture of herself on Instagram dressed differently from when she was presenting and told fans the birthday celebrations were about to start. She also shared that she was excited to see her boyfriend performing live on the BET Experience stage. It shows the Dreamwork hitmaker is not doing all that much AKAlosanga after all, see?

One other person who deserves a mention is Boitumelo Thulo, who bought herself an AMG just a few months after buying a mansion. Last week she reached a million followers on Instagram, thanking her fans for the love and support. “Thank you to every single person who has contributed to adding light to my page and my life. Thank you for choosing to love me, to support me and for always cheering me on. Even in my low moments, I know that I’ll find light here and be reminded that nothing is ever as bad as I think,” she wrote. Congratulations to Boity, we know this is only the beginning.
