Bathroom hacks for height and light
The slightest change to your bathroom ceiling might make the world’s difference. Pulling the eyes toward the ceiling with an impressive chandelier or even by painting the ceiling in a contrasting colour could make the bathroom ceiling appear higher than what it is.
Replace your bathroom’s sconces – which are so last season – with a dramatic chandelier and see how your bathroom changes from modest to lavish.
ElevenPast’s black and bronze chandelier costs a mere R749, it’s not too big, but also not too small and it will give your bathroom that luxurious look.
You can also add a large mirror to reflect some more natural light and to make your bathroom appear bigger.
Bring the outdoors indoors
House plants have been trending for quite some time now, and it’s definitely not limited to the rest of your home. You’d be surprised at what one or two plants can do when it comes to sprucing up your bathroom.
Iconomy, Typo, Cotton On and Sugar&Vice all have lovely planter options to choose from. Ferns always work well in bathrooms, especially the button fern and the asparagus fern. You can also spruce up your bathroom with a Monstera Deliciosa, famous for its lovely leaf holes. Garden Mecca sells them for R79.00 per plant.
Wondrous walls
If you don’t have budget to cover all the bathroom walls, perhaps opt for one feature wall and cover it with brightly coloured subway tiles or wrap the wall in a classic print with Robin Sprong wallpaper.
Anything tropical goes for bathroom walls at this stage, so perhaps opt for a leafy print. Some people even use wallpaper on their ceilings instead of the walls – a great way to make a statement.
Robin Sprong also sells shower panel vinals, another bathroom décor statement option to tap into.

More is more with marble
You might not have the budget to fit out your whole bathroom with marble like Jacques Garcia’s Amalfi Coast bathroom design, but you could add a couple of marble elements for a touch of luxury.
Here, Italtile’s Calcutta Gold Glazed Polished Porcelain Tiles might come in handy for a feature wall.
Or, bring in some marble decorative items like @Home’s white marble and wood tray, which costs only R299. Couple it with a matching soap dispenser, toilet brush and tumbler and you’re sorted.
Rug it on a budget
Add a touch of softness in your bathroom space by replacing your bathmat with a full-size vintage rug. This will not only make the bathroom look more luxurious, but it might also keep the bathroom warmer for longer after you’ve taken a bath.
You might find rather affordable options on Superbalist.
Declutter
A decluttered bathroom already has a more luxurious feel to it as it adds a sense of space to the room. Make the decluttering process easier with elegant storage options like cotton-rope storage baskets and mirror-covered cupboards.
Luxurious bathroom linen
Nothing says luxury like the soft touch of a Woolies bath sheet. Just by replacing your old bath towels with some new, luxury bath sheets could also liven up your bathroom instantly.
