How to choose the perfect pair of jeans

Jeans never go out of style. Follow our tips to choose the perfect jeans for your look and figure.

We love jeans, but finding that elusive perfect pair is not for the faint-hearted – especially because narrower, skinny styles are in.

Follow these tips to find the perfect jeans for your figure.

Focus on the fit

The perfect pair of jeans needs to fit snugly at your waist, skim over your curves and allow you to move freely. Thus, you will need to select a pair in a material that has a bit of stretch.

In addition, your jeans should sit correctly at your waist to avoid the dreaded muffin top spillage. Unless of course you opt for a high-waisted style. Ensure your jeans fit well on your thighs and at the crotch too.

Consider the cut

You’re definitely spoilt for choice when it comes to jeans at the moment because they are available in a range of cuts and styles. However, you should opt for a pair that works with your figure.

Skinny legs are most popular but are best suited for athletic, apple-shaped and hourglass figures. Body types with larger thighs and hips such as pear shapes should opt for flared legs or straight cuts that don’t fit too tightly at the thigh.

Take colour and detailing into account

Dark washes are most flattering as they have a slimming effect. You can also go for medium washes with no detailing for a chic look. In terms of detailing, use pockets to add volume to areas you want to accentuate. You can also opt for embellishments to highlight your curves.

Watch out for distressing and stonewashes over areas that you don’t want to draw attention to. The lighter colours can end up looking unflattering. The same goes for rips, tears and patches.
