Trick your brain into losing weight

Many people may believe that it is impossible to trick your brain into losing weight. However, Dr Alan R. Hirsch of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago may beg to differ.

After conducting some studies, with approximately 3000 participants, he found that the more frequently people sniffed certain foods, the less hungry they felt and thus the more weight they lost. It was estimated that participants lost an average of just over thirteen and a half kilograms each.

So how exactly does this work? ‘One theory is that sniffing the food tricks the brain into thinking that you’re actually eating it.’

Consider sniffing either banana, apple or peppermint and test for yourself if this theory works.

Consult a professional

Always consult a dietician if you require assistance in putting a meal plan together. In addition, you should always check with your doctor before making any drastic changes to your diet, especially if you are under medication or suffer from any medical condition that has an effect on your diet.
