Clean and sober for six years – Zoleka Mandela

'The addiction to sex, alcohol and drugs do not define me ... Instead, these experiences for lack of a better word, have made me the woman that I am today.'

It is indeed an achievement, and we can unquestionably say that Zoleka Mandela had every right to share it with the world on social media and maybe buy herself a cake after managing to stay sober and clean for six years.

Mandela, who has never been shy about sharing her battle with Mzansi, took to social media to celebrate this accomplishment. “I stayed up just to post this, you guys! The clock has struck midnight and I’m so excited about celebrating my 6yrs of sobriety today!!! My wish as I blow out the candles on my cake today will be that those reading my posts are reminded that it is never too late to rewrite their life stories, I did,” she jotted down. “Even after abusing alcohol for 17yrs and cocaine for 10yrs, today I celebrate being 6yrs clean and sober because I had to change for things to start changing in my life,” she further explained.

She went on to recall how she had to endure abuse growing up and how that has somehow shaped her into the woman she is today. “The sexual and physical abuse of my childhood and teenage years does not define me, the addiction to sex, alcohol and drugs do not define me … Instead, these experiences for lack of a better word, have made me the woman that I am today, one who deserves a second chance. I’m capable of fault but undeterred because I love the woman I am becoming … I’m a conqueress! I’m fear less, real, strong, beautiful, humbled, unbroken and SOBER!!! Here’s to another 6 years … Happy 6th birthday to me!!!” she wrote.

Great work Zoleka!

Wishing you many more sober and clean days!
