Hitchhiker robbed and left stranded

Police in Tzaneen are appealing to the public for their help in locating suspects of an armed robbery.

Police in Tzaneen are investigating a case of armed robbery emanating from a hitchhiking incident.

It is alleged that the complainant, an African female youth, got a lift in a silver-grey Toyota Corolla with GP registration, from Turfloop to Tzaneen with two African male occupants.

The victim told police that the car looked like a 2016 model.

She alleged that when they reached the Wheelbarrow farm stall on the R71 road, the driver pointed a firearm at her which he took from underneath his seat.

They then forced her to e-wallet the money she had in her bank account.

The suspects also took her cellphone, cash, bank cards and forced her to give them the pin codes.

They drove her into a gravel road nearby and told her to walk into the bushes and not look back.

The suspects then drove back to the tar road and left her in the bushes.

Tzaneen SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Maurice Nkhwashu, told Letaba Herald that a case of armed robbery has been opened and an investigation is underway.
