Team Rage fighters show some guts and glory

Team Rage urges the youth to join their mixed martial arts family and stay out of trouble by getting involved in the full-contact fighting sport.

Team Rage showcased impressive high-flying kicks, determination and grit at several recent tournaments, aiming to establish themselves as a dominant force on the West Rand.

The club, a mixed martial arts club from Krugersdorp West, was established in 2015 and has been making strides by training those with a desire to take part in the full-contact fighting sport.

According to the head instructor at the club, Fred Lourens, his fighters recently took part in the Fight X Fight Night, an amateur MMA tournament, as well as the Golden Lion Kickboxing Tournament. Three of his fighters would perform well at the respective tournaments and earned a medal in specifically the Golden Lion Kickboxing Tournament. Mosa Maleka, Ordirile Bob and Thuto Seatle were all medallists and the club hopes to add more accolades.

“In 2023, we had five fighters fighting in the South African Kickboxing Association National Championships. All the fighters came home with medals, silver and bronze and six of our fighters were also selected to fight for the West Gauteng team at the national championships. We are affiliated with Martial Arts South Africa K1 SA, the Kickboxing Organisation of South Africa as well as Mixed Martial Arts South Africa.”

Fred has plenty of experience under his belt as he has trained in the sport for several years. He holds a fourth black belt in kickboxing and urges youngsters to join the club.

“The club is open for anyone interested in joining us. We mainly ask for the youth especially here in Krugersdorp West to join us because many of them are exposed to drugs and crime and we would like to give them some sort of direction rather than be exposed to the negative side of this town,” Fred said.
