“I feel amazing about what I have achieved as a young guitarist, but this award feels extra special,” said Groenewald.

“When I got my first electric guitar for my birthday, from that day, I was committed to working hard and being the best guitarist I could be,” said Groenewald.

“I can play a bit of piano. I am from a family that does not play any instruments, and I would like to claim the role as the source of the love of instruments in the family because my brother and nephew decided to follow in my footsteps.”

Groenewald said he practices at least two to three times a week, including a 30-minute lesson with his guitar teacher, Brendon Behzuidenhout, and playing in the church band on Sunday evenings.

He said his versatility and creativity set him apart from the rest.

“I think I stand out from the rest not necessarily in skill, but maybe in versatility and how I can incorporate my creativity in music,” said Groenewald.

He said he balances his music with school so one does not affect the other, but he gives his best for both.

“My favourite guitarist is John Mayer, and that is where I receive most of my play style and motivation.”

Groenewald said he wants to study at university after school and pursue a music career while chasing his dreams.
