Dante’s Legacy is ready to win

Previously he finished a 2.85-length behind Legal Eagle.

Once again tonight’s Greyville meeting starts off on the Polytrack and then moves to the turf and the main event of the evening is Race 6, a MR 86 Handicap over 2000m.

It looks quite a competitive race but one has to like the performance of Dante’s Legacy in the Grade 3 Christmas Handicap over 1600m at this track last time out when he was up with the pace for much of the race before fading late to finish 4.80 lengths behind It Is Written.

That was only his second run since finishing unplaced behind French Navy in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 over the course and distance in which he pulled up short, probably the reason for his long layoff.

His previous run over 2000m was at Turffontein in the Listed Derby Trial in which he finished a 2.85-length third behind Legal Eagle, giving Sean Tarry’s charge 2.5kg.

Dante’s Legacy’s comeback run over 1600m on the Polytrack was excellent as he finished 0.30 lengths behind Cage Fighter and his last run was a typical second run after a layoff. He should now be fully fit and ready to win.

He jumps from No 1 draw and has Warren Kennedy on his back.

His main threat could come from Emperor Niarchos who is sure to prefer this distance as opposed to the 2400m of his last start.
