Greeff can strike Gold

Trainer Alan Greeff has four fillies entered in today’s East Cape Breeders Stakes, Race 6 over 1200m at Fairview with Yoshie and Goldie Coast who look the best of the quad and could fight out the finish.

Stable Jockey Greg Cheyne reunites with Yoshie and the 12-time winning filly is the best weighted.

Yoshie, an Antonius Pius filly, has won three of her seven starts over this distance – and all three this track and trip.

Over the years the better going has usually been on the outside so her draw of 16 will be a positive.

The Australian-bred Goldie Coast has tackled stronger company this season without winning but will appreciate the change in scenery. Title chaser S’manga Khumalo will be in charge of her.

Stable companion Facinating Filly is attempting a hat-trick of wins but takes a big step up in class.

Dinesen is the fourth of the Greeff entrants and this filly will need to improve a couple of lengths if she is to trouble the judges.

Visiting trainers have a good record in Eastern Cape feature races and Joey Ramsden sends out the mare Miss Saigon.

Jockey Karl Neisius makes a rare trip to ride Miss Saigon and the five-year-old Captain Al mare was running on strongly when 1.25 lengths behind Yoshie over this course and distance in February.

Not Sulking makes her debut for the Tara Laing yard and one must not be put off by her recent form as she has top class ability on her day.

Her win over the Grade 1 winner Carry On Alice in December last year bears testimony to that.

Trainer Yvette Bremner also has four entered and it is surprising she has the decent juvenile La Rebel set to return off a short break.

Two-year-olds have been known to win big feature sprints, as did Kingsgate Native many years ago at Ascot, but it has not happened here for ages.

However La Rebel has good juvenile form and receives 7kg.

Lielums and Antonia’s Fortress are two others who could pop up in the places.
