The four-year-old gelding has only notched up one win in 13 starts but Darryl Hodgson’s charge has placed on eight other occasions since winning a Maiden Plate

Royal Ginger could be rewarded for consistency when he lines up in Race 5 at Kenilworth on Tuesday, a MR 80 Handicap over 2000m.

The four-year-old gelding has only notched up one win in 13 starts but Darryl Hodgson’s charge has placed on eight other occasions since winning a Maiden Plate in October last year, Royal Ginger has raced four times for two seconds and two fourths and looks ripe for anther visit to the winner’s enclosure.

Two runs back Hodgson fitted blinkers for the first time and running over this course and distance finished a 0.20-length second behind King Of The Corn. After the race he was found to be cut into on his right fore.

His second start in blinkers was over 1800m and on this occasion he ran on well to finish fourth, just 1.20 lengths behind Saint Roch. Donovan Dillon, who rode him in his penultimate start, takes the ride again.

One Direction is an improving three-year-old who will be having his third start since being gelded. The son of Silvano has got better with each start since and last time flew up late to finish a 0.35-length third behind Midnight Vision over 1600m at this course. He tries 2000m for the first time but Justin Snaith’s charge is bred to get the trip and is expected to go close.
