Race 7 No Favorita

Whenever jockey Richard Fourie and trainer Justin Snaith decide to leave Cape Town and raid any province in the country, they usually help punters make a little profit.

Considering they’ve always spoken highly of two-year-old filly Favorita, she looks banker material in all bets.

Following a promising second at the first time of asking, this daughter of Gimmethegreenlight produced a champions heart and an exquisite turn of foot to beat Thumbs Up by the whisker margin of 0.05 lengths over 900m.

That was in her penultimate offering. She was far from disgraced when finishing fourth behind the unbeaten Delta Queen – dubbed the next best thing – in her Handicap debut recently.

Favorita can only get better with experience. If she brings the same mentality she did when winning, she will be hard to peg back.

Bargain Bet

Race 4 No 2 Meryl

Since relocating to the Eastern Cape, Meryl has been a revelation – recording an impressive four victories and three places from seven appearances.

Although giving favourite backers a few heart palpitations passing the 50m marker, like a good thing, she fought Summer Moon all the way to the finish line and won by a nose last time.

The step up to 2400m shouldn’t raise any red flags. This mare won over 2200m three runs back.

What makes her even harder to tip against is the fact she is perfectly drawn at No 1 and doesn’t face the strongest of fields.
