BiPot a smart option

CLASSY. Cals Crush has not raced since May but Sean Tarry’s charge looks set for a big future and is the runner to beat in Race 6 at Turffontein today.
One of the best bets on any local meeting is the BiPot. It used be run many years back only at the Vaal and sadly got scrapped. Now it is back at all venues and is bet of great skill and fun.
Its other advantage is that it is over after six earlier races so if you do collect you have money to spend on some of the later races, especially if you have carryover Quartet in the last race.
When the BiPot was previously available I battled with it because of the wrong approach. Most people see it as a kind shortened Place Accumulator rather than an elongated Pick 6. The difference in mind set is that you need to look at horses who have winning chances, rather than consistent place-getters.
Today’s BiPot at Turffontein is interesting in that as the form of the raced horses in Race 1 are poor, the first two past the post are likely to be first-timers. Mike de Kock, Sean Tarry and Paul Peter – all stables in form – have debutants so they need to be included, as well as Amajory. Amajory has raced once and showed lots of pace before fading out, and as Phelisile Mongqawa is Paul Peter’s first choice among the work riders, this could be the stable elect.
For those still unsure, it could also be worth putting in the remaining unraced runner, Power Of Love, a Visionaire filly from David Nieuwenhuizen’s stable.
In Race 2 Hampton Court has the best form but last time was beaten as an odds-on favourite and was reported to be making a respiratory noise. A tongue-tie has been added but just in case things go wrong, it is worth adding Powered By Malhub who improved markedly last time.
Race 3 is another tricky Maiden Plate for fillies and mares and the scratching of De Kock-trained Saheera makes life even more difficult. So add in Wings Of Charne, Magical Charm and Summer Sun.
Loyal Lieutenant looks the banker in Race 4 as the opposition does not look too strong while in Race 5 one should get by with three runners – Emily Jay, Lebanese Tractor and Jet Start, who looks better than her last run.
In Race 6 Cals Crush and Winter Watch competed against some of the best as two-year-olds and they should suffice in the final leg.
