Head Honcho to Rock double

He is yet to run out of the money and that trend should continue today.

Head Honcho was the talk of the town on July Day when as 7-10 favourite, he won the Mumm Stakes.

This Querari colt was an awkward ride and jockey Anton Marcus dropped his crop in running. His class saw him through and is the runner to beat in the main event at Scottsville today, a MR 83 Divided Handicap over 1400m.

In his only race at Scottsville he was beaten by 0.25 lengths into second by Carbon Offset. He is yet to run out of the money and that trend should continue here. He appears to be on the up and it will prove an advantage that he shoulders 59kg and will jump from a good No 3 draw.

What is interesting is Anton Marcus will not be aboard in spite of winning on the colt last time.

Instead he will be aboard the Charles Laird-trained Captain Of Rock for owners Mayfair Speculators who could make the frame although returning from a 138-day break.

Head Honcho’s main threat could be Joey Ramsden’s runner Alaadel. He lacks nothing in the class department and from a No 6 draw can steal the show.

Joey Ramsden’s Twice Over gelding Rock My Soul returns to the course following decent try in a Juvenile Plate over 1900m at Greyville last time out. He had to overcome the widest draw of all and that outing could have been a bit too far considering he has performed best over the 1400m trip.

He lines up in Race 7, a MR 71 Divided Handicap over 1400m and looks very hard to tip against. He has only registered two runs at the course: a narrow defeat three starts back beaten a tight 0.10 lengths by Cool At Heart. Rock My Soul followed up with an impressive 1.75 length victory when a 7-20 favourite under jockey Anton Marcus.

Champion jockey Anthony Delpech is in the irons. His experience will have to be on show because Rock My Soul has a wide No 15 draw to overcome.

Ramsden’s charge will have just 56.5kg to shoulder – 3.5kg less than his main danger Admiral’s Guest who too returns to his favoured course. His last run is not a reflection of his true ability, so expect improvement.
