Chimichuri to run well in Diadem Stakes

Chimichuri Run could make a feast of the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes over 1200m at the Cape Town Prawn Festival meeting at Kenilworth tomorrow.

But this is a challenging contest and Sean Tarry’s Chimichuri Run, who has been a little disappointing over 1600m in recent starts, must be regarded as a tentative first choice.However this three-year-old Trippi colt looked something very special when streaking clear in both the Umkhomazi and Spring Spree Stakes at Grade 3 level over this trip a few months ago.

Coming back to sprinting may be just what the doctor ordered, and with 55kg and Anton Marcus up, he makes plenty of appeal.

Brett Crawford’s Search Party finished strongly for third in the Cape Flying Championship, and now receives 2kg from both Kasimir and stablemate Bold Respect.

His two Grade 2 wins have both been over 1200m, and he rates a major threat.

Kasimir has thrived since gelding, and despite the 2kg penalty here for his recent Grade 1 win, is sure to be in the shake up once again.

A potential wild card is the now eight-year-old Silicon Valley.

His soundness issues are well documented, and he returns from a nine-month break a er his latest setback a er winning a Pinnacle Stakes.

He has a great record racing fresh though, and could pop up at long odds.

The card has three other features, and the sole three-year-old in the Listed Kenilworth Cup over 3200m, Cedar Man, appears likely to stay all day, and with 52kg is going to take a lot of catching
