Meraki looks set to make punters happy

One who does still look a little ahead of the handicapper is Meraki in Race 5, a MR 83 Handicap over 1600m.

It’s rare for Cape Town racing to take place on a Thursday, and tomorrow’s meeting has quite a few open-looking handicaps to provide punters with something of a puzzle.

One who does still look a little ahead of the handicapper is Meraki in Race 5, a MR 83 Handicap over 1600m.

This Australian-bred Canford Cliffs gelding has really found his niche since being fitted with blinkers.

An easy win was followed up by a runner-up berth to highly talented three-year-old Vardy.

Then last time he scored again when dealing easily with an-other useful youngster in Priceless Ruler, who has since franked the form.

It all points to Meraki being be er than his mark of 78, and with regular jockey Aldo Domeyer up he will be tough to deny, especially as he gives every indication of now looking for this trip.

Ancestry, Red Mars, and Grand Silvano look most likely to give cheek.

It could be a good day for Domeyer, as he also partners Forest Field in Race 4, who appeals as a value bet.

This Marchfield filly runs in a Maiden Plate for females, also over 1600m.

She stayed on just out of the places on her sprint debut, and was supported in the betting second time out when tried around the turn.

She made no impression after racing green from a wide draw, but has to be better than that, and meets a mostly well-exposed bunch of maiden fillies.
