Madame Speaker to show her class

With the advantage of the best draw she should recoup the losses.

Never out of the money in her 11 starts, Alan Greeff -trained Madame Speaker looks on target for a sixth career win at the Fairview Polytrack today when teamed up with Greg Cheyne in Race 7, the Aloe Handicap (Non-Black Type) for three-year-old fillies over 1300m.

Cheyne was aboard in the filly’s last five starts which saw her score twice – the last of which was in her penultimate outing when a decisive 3.25-length winner over 1600m.

She was not disgraced in her subsequent run as she had the worst draw but still finished a game second to the Cape Town raider Platinum Class in the Lady’s Bracelet (Listed) over 1600m.

With the advantage of the best draw she should recoup the losses.

However, a strong challenge is likely to come from Elle Est Noire out of the hot stable of Yvette Bremner with champion jockey Lyle Hewitson in the saddle.

Another who could be involved in the fi nish is Gavin Smith trained three-time winner Klever Kathy with JP van der Merwe aboard.

This filly showed smart form over 1400m in her last three starts with Muzi Yeni up – posting a decisive double and then finishing an unlucky third after clip-ping heels in the running.

Next best is Sharon Kotzen-trained one-time winner Vertical (Louis Mxothwa) who is lower down in the weights. Smith-trained Peking Tyson (Van der Merwe) looks a good bet in Race 1, a 1200m Maiden Plate.

This former Gauteng three-year-old comes off a promising second run for Smith when fi nishing a neck runner-up over 1300m at the Polytrack.

With the confidence gained from that run the three-year-old should exit the maiden ranks this time.
