ERMELO – The DA is launching a community-driven initiative called the Project 400 Challenge, aiming to rally 400 volunteers to clean up Ermelo’s CBD on October 19.
The event will start at Ermelo Toyota at 09:00, where the volunteers will gather before fanning out across the CBD.
JJ Scholtz, the DA’s candidate for the upcoming Ward 7 by-election, stated: “Illegal dumping and littering have become an eyesore in the community. This initiative aims to address these issues so that residents can take pride in this town they call home.”
In addition to this initiative, the DA is taking a stand against the recent electricity tariff increases imposed by the Msukaligwa Local Municipality.
On September 18, some DA members encouraged the town’s residents on the corner of Kerk and Jansen streets to voice their concerns by signing petitions.
Danie du Plessis, a DA member, and Scholtz affirmed their support for AfriForum’s campaign against these unlawful tariff hikes.
“We want to ensure that all residents are informed on how to contest these unjust tariffs and take the right steps,” they stated.
To assist the residents in doing so, the DA has drafted a dispute form that is available HERE
This form will guide those unfamiliar with the technical steps needed to challenge their municipal rates, providing support in light of a court ruling earlier this year that confirmed the illegality of these increases if local municipalities fail to submit their necessary cost studies.
