Alleged unregistered doctor of Hendrina appears in court

He allegedly informed the inspectors he had his registration papers. He was instructed to produce them, but failed to do so.

HENDRINA – Ilunga Pierre Mwenze (38) appeared in the Hendrina Magistrate’s Court on April 11 for practising as a health professional while allegedly not being registered with the council in terms of the Health Professions Act.

Mwenze was arrested during a joint intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Middelburg Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) at Hendrina Med24 on April 5.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, the Hawks’ spokesperson, said, “On April 4, it was reported that the suspect, who had been monitored by the police for some time, was found on duty.”

Mwenze was interviewed by the HPCSA inspectors, who discovered he was apparently not registered with the council as a medical practitioner. However, he informed the inspectors he had his registration papers.

He was instructed to produce them, but failed to do so.

Mwenze was arrested and charged with contravening the Health Professions Act.

Patient files and registers were confiscated for further investigation.

Mwenze was released on R5 000 bail and the case was postponed to April 13 for further investigation.
