YFM DJs jump ship to 5fm

It's been a busy time at 5fm. First Gareth Cliff and his morning team announced they would be leaving, now three current and former Yfm DJs will be heading over to the station.

DJ Warrick “Warras” Stock, Tumi Voster and Thando Thabethe will be moving over to 5fm, the station announced on it’s facebook page.

According to the statement Warras and Voster will be dominating the airwaves from 7pm – 10pm, while Thabethe will be a contributor for a weekday show and host her own show on the weekend.

Tim Zunckel, Programme Manager comments; “We are very excited, the 5FM brand always attracts top personalities who want to work on the biggest youth platform in the country. This is a perfect time for Warras to join and this will have the ability to take his career to the next level. Both Tumi and Thando are great additions to the new line-up and we looking forward to them developing on our platform.”

For most radio listeners the move is not that much of a surprise.

In March, Sundway World reported that Warras turned down the offer to renew his contract at Yfm. He was prematurely taken off the show before the end of the current contract. He

“What really disappointed me was that they refused to let me do a goodbye show after I pleaded with them to do one,” said the DJ, who is also a presenter on SABC1’s Live Amp.

Around the same time, radio personality Thabethe has announced her departure from both Club 808 and YFM. According to Daily Sun, YFM did not renew her contract.

With many still reeling after Cliff’s shock exit and possible plans to launch his own station, speculation is mounting that DJ Fresh is set to take over his morning spot and Roger Goode  taking over the Fresh Drive. 5fm has said it will announce its new line-up on 5 May.
