Tshibika won the reality dancing competition despite being quite shy, but her genuine talent as a dancer ensured that the SA public kept voting for her. Now with an impressive R250 000 in her pocket, the dancer intends to use her money wisely.
“I am going to buy my mother a house and move her there with my four siblings,” the emotional 22-year-old said, according to the Sowetan.
“I’ve lived in a shack my whole life and through dance I am now able to buy my family their first proper home.”
Tshibika – who started dancing when she was 16 – was awarded a scholarship to study at the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education in America, after appearing in a documentary called ‘Ghetto Ballet’ which chronicles the lives of four young ballet dancers who live in some of Cape Town’s most poverty-stricken areas.
“Dance is my life and it has carried me through tough times,” she added.
“I am living proof that patience and perseverance pay off. I am certain that job offers will start trickling in.”
When asked if she learned any valuable life lessons during her time on the show, Tshibika said that she “learnt not to ever underestimate myself and be intimidated by other dancers”.
Her thrilled mother, domestic worker Noluthando, said: “I thank God and I am happy that our community supported us.”
