Grace and Frankie

Compelled to come to terms with the unfortunate cards life has dealt them, frenemies’ Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) wake up to the harsh reality that their husbands of 40 years are gay and have chosen to spend the next chapter of their lives as lovers.

Set in a suburban cosmopolitan neighbourhood, the wives of law firm partners Sol and Robert, played by award-winning actors Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen, find themselves one day sitting across from each other at a restaurant table over lunch as their husbands pronounce their undying love for one another.

This Netflix comedy series, which first aired in 2015, and is now in its fourth season, is still a jolly good laugh.

The two characters come faceto-face with their worst nightmare, which is not their newly out of the closet gay husbands, but rather having to lean on each other for moral support and become housemates.

Their quarrels are now about who is the better friend to the other, amid mutual feelings of resentment and compassion for their ex-husbands.

Young Sheldon

A spin-off series from America’s award-winning science comedy, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon is a sitcom detailing the early development of Sheldon Cooper, played by 10-year-old Iain Armitage.

Set in eastern Texas, the socially awkward genius has to adjust his overly brilliant brain down to the level of those of average folks like his family, school teachers and most other people around him.

Season one of the spinoff humorously captures the daily struggles of the genius, with his mother, played by Zoe Perry, as his most trusted friend. Young Sheldon answers the countless questions every fan of the first show will have, such as:

• What was he like as a child?

• Did he even have friends?

• How did he meet Leonard and the gang?

Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, Young Sheldon will make you laugh out loud at the obnoxiously sarcastic remarks that fly between Sheldon, his siblings and the community.
