Viola Davis, Samuel L Jackson and Tiffany Haddish were among some of the industry greats who attended the opening.

American actor, director, writer and producer Tyler Perry threw the mother of all celebrations at the grand opening his studios, Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta at the weekend.

The event saw Hollywood A-listers coming together to celebrate history. Perry is reportedly the first African American to own a studio with no partners or corporate backing.

The studios boasts building replicas of the White House and Mabel ‘Madea’ Simmons’s famous house, along with with 12 soundstages named after fellow industry legends Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, Ossie Davis, Cicely Tyson, Sidney Poitier, Harry Belefonte, Will Smith, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, Spike Lee, Ruby Dee, and Diahann Carroll.

Viola Davis, Samuel L Jackson and Tiffany Haddish were among some of the industry greats who were in attendance.

According to American filmmaker Ava DuVernay, the Tyler Perry Studios is big enough to fit in studio lots of Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, Fox, and Sony and still leave 60 acres to spare.

“All on a former Confederate Army base. A stunning achievement that will echo through the generations,” she said.
