Elton John fans, rejoice! Paramount Pictures have dropped the first trailer for the upcoming film based around Elton’s formative years in music, ‘Rocketman’.
Starring Taron Egerton (Kingsman, The Billionaire Boy’s Club) as the flamboyant rock star, ‘Rocketman’ is set in the 1970s and follows Elton John from his humble beginnings to becoming a global superstar – with the all heartache, drug abuse and blowouts that occurred along the way.
The films also stars Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Jumper) as Elton John’s long standing music writing partner Bernie Taupin, Gemma Jones, Bryce Dallas Howard and Richard Madden. The fils has been penned by Lee Hall (who also wrote Billy Elliot) and directed by Dexter Fletcher (the actor-turned director who replaced Bryan Singer midway through the production of the Queen biopic, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘).
According to an interview conducted with Egerton by Collidor, the actor said that ‘Rocketman’ isn’t so much a biopic as it is a ‘fantasy musical’, and that he will be singing many of Elton John’s iconic numbers in the movie.
“We are making a movie called ‘Rocketman’ about Elton John’s formative years. Everyone thinks it’s a bio-pic. It isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical so it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings. It’s going to be fun,” Egerton said.
Egerton looks to be keeping busy at present. Filming for ‘Rocketman’ is currently underway and fans of the young actor should look for him in the upcoming Robin Hood film that’s set for release globally this November.
